Another year, another great edition of P.King op Straat during Queens Night and Day. For the fourth time in a row DJBroadcast, P.King, Karma Productions and Jägermeister teamed up to paint the town orange on one of the most outrageous holidays known to man.

Unexpectedly, the lovely people at the city council granted us a permit to start off the festivities on the night before, known to the Dutch as Queens Night. Imagine people dancing as far as the eye can see and some of Holland’s finest artists. Jama and Miss Bunty warmed up the crowd to its boiling point in no time, and from there on out it was smooth sailing. Marco Spaventi (Delsin Records) followed with a great live-set. Local heroes Cinnaman featuring Sef and Tom Trago supported by host Steven van Lummel brought it home in there own unique ways.

12 hours later, The Please took to the stage to kick off a very sunny day, much to the delight of the hung over but ready-to-go crowd. Within just one hour the Vijzelstraat was blocked by a raving mass again, and Joachim took over control. Later that afternoon, Aron Friedman (TrouwAmsterdam) and Philip Young (90watts) brought us dance music of regal splendour. But the absolute royals of the day were two internationally acclaimed headliners. None other than Shinedoe and Dimitri closed up shop, and left people craving for more.

Check out the pictures that were taken during Queens Night and Day.

First there was some wisdom shared to the wise, at night we danced our shoes off to the funkiest UK beats, courtesy of the Night Slugs.

The evening started with a room packed with Fatboys, some drinks, and Red Bull Music Academy’s graduates Full Crate and Palmbomen sharing their Madrid-adventures with an eager crowd. Night Slugs head honcho’s Bok Bok and L-Vis 1990 took place on the Academy couch as well, letting us in on some off the secrets to their massive success. After the lecture, the room was transformed into a dance floor, and the Slugs did what they do best; playing some badass tunes, supported by their Dutch friend Cinnaman.

Blueprint Media was responsible for the production, curation, and communication of the Workshop, party, and master class with Palmbomen and Full Crate in the Red Bull Studio the next day, as part of a warm-up to the international Academy in New York this year.

The last few years we have been branching out, and we attracted quite a few new staff members, so we needed more space. Now, we have all the space we need. We’re even thinking of using one of the rooms as an arcade slash bar. With all the hours we spend working, why not make ourselves comfortable, right?

What a blast it was. Amsterdam is still recovering from this year’s 5 Days Off festival and Jägermeister was part of the festivities. As an overall festival sponsor, Jägermeister provided the energy for an edition we will not easily forget…

Apart from the Jäger Bar, which operated throughout the festival from Paradiso and Melkweg, the team took control of the Melkweg Oude Zaal on the second day of 5 Days Off. Aron Friedman and William Kouam Djoko, two talents from the Jäger Music program, played alongside ROD (aka Benny Rodrigues going techno) and Dekmantel ward Jan van Kampen.

The designers of 310k did a great job on the artwork for the night by building a life size Jäger Music icon in the shape of a mouse, which was placed behind the dj and video-mapped for full visual effect. Check out the image above to get the picture…

We have a liftoff, the highly anticipated Red Bull Studio Amsterdam is in business. So what’s the aim here? Well, to support both local musicians and internationally acclaimed artists by providing a high-end studio facility and knowledge.

Photography: Arenda de Hoop

Cause besides the studio, which consists of a live room and a control room packed with new as well as vintage gear, engineers from the Amsterdam based SAE Institute (official partners) are included.

Our friends from Bax and Voerman made sure that there’s a hell of a lot to play with when it comes to synthesizers, drumcomputers, compressors, outboard effects, plug-ins, mic preamps etcetera, etcetera.

The Red Bull Studio is open to anyone with an interesting pitch and no genres are excluded. So whether you want to use the Live room – which is shared with House of Virgil International – to record your next hillbilly Country record with a full band, or master your Chicago acidhouse track on the 64-channel mixing board (formerly in use by the Golden Earring) in the control room; possibilities are endless. Among the artists that have been working in the studio so far are: Sef, Guerilla Speakerz, Dio, Boris Werner, Zwart Licht, Jameszoo and Tom Trago.

Blueprint Media is responsible for studio management, production and content of the RBSA-website. Let the fun begin.

Although in other countries festival weekends in holiday parks have been around for years, the phenomenon recently made its Dutch debut. The aptly named party weekender Bungalup! (get it?) took place in Centerparcs De Eemhof in Zeewolde, and drew a hipster crowd, people who normally spend their short holidays in London. Berlin, or Paris. To make them feel at home, they received a warm welcome by Jägermeister with a complementary bottle in the fridge of each cabin, and an invitation to the Secret Jägerfest, a Saturday afternoon party featuring Jäger Music’s De Grote Vinnie, Donnie & Sjakie Show, and the Yellow Claw threesome.

The Jägermeister team set up camp in Zeewolde packing a truckload of clothing, handbags, and other accessories. All the material we needed for the Quest for the Secret Jägerfest; a quest we set up for the festival visitors to ultimately obtain a wristband to get into the ‘Secret Jägerfest’.

Participants needed to apply for the quest before the event. It turned out to be a hot ticket as 1.000 people sent us an e-mail to take part. On a first-come-first-serve basis we selected 180 people to join the quest that led them through the beautiful Zeewolde winter wonderland to face several challenges they needed to overcome to be allowed to enter the party.

It was as much about the journey as it was about the destination. Among other things the challenges covered such activities as improv theatre, trout fishing (for plastic ducks, don’t ask…), and running a playground gauntlet. At each stop the participants could pick a clothing item to wear to the party. As you will understand the participants gradually became quite a colourful bunch.

People who didn’t apply for the quest in time had one more chance to get into the party nonetheless; they needed to find one of the Jäger opa’s, old men holding the last 270 wristbands for the party, strolling through the centre of the park.

The party started at 17:00, and the crowd went mental from the first moment on. Dutch rapper Mr Polska got on the mic, and even went crowd surfing on a sleigh… Three hours went by in the blink of an eye, and the Quest for the Secret Jägerfest turned out to be one of the epic moments of the first edition of Bungalup. Check out the video and photos to see for yourself!

‘Something special’ became another 24 hour challenge for our team, one day to organize an epic Friday afternoon rave. As we are big fans of the guys, it was obvious that Modeselektor was the headliner of choice. As the duo is known not to shy away from a surprise party, they instantly committed themselves to the cause. A few phone calls later we had lined up Cinnaman, Brutuzz, and Nuno dos Santos to join the Germans behind the proverbial wheels of steel, and then all there was left to do was promoting the gig like there’s no tomorrow, figuratively speaking of course.

Because, contradicting apparent Ronan Keating believes, tomorrow did come. And it came in victory as dozens of clubbers queued up in front of the OceanDiva before we even opened the doors! Amazing line-up, free party, free drinks, first come, first serve, go figure… The place was packed with 700 people within the hour, and when Modeslektor dropped the first beats, it was on until Brutuzz faded out the last tune around 23:00.

Note: this perfect night would not have happened without all your Tweets, updates, and blog items. We thank you for the hype and your amazing energy at the event!

On the backside we decided to show Jiggy Djé, one of Dutch hip hop’s frontmen, as the title page of the Buma Rotterdam Beats special.

For the front cover, we asked one of DJB’s favourite graphic designers Supersilo to freestyle us on of his signature futuristic illustrations. And he definitely delivered as expected. And if you’ve ever wondered how such graphic insanity takes chape, check out this video, featuring the creative process that leads to a Supersilo illustration!
